Amala Chebolu was born to Dr. Gopala Krishna Murthy and Smt. Saraswathi in Vizag. Her father, a retired Economics professor, has published numerous economics textbooks and dedicated his career to academics. She grew up with her loving elder sister who has always been a source of support.
Raised in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam, Amala completed her studies there. She attended Timpany School, where she made many fond memories. Since childhood, she received several awards in Carnatic music. She also pursued a Master’s degree in Computer Science.
Amala enjoys reading, playing badminton, and watching Netflix. Additionally, she is also a dubbing artist.
Some Sweet Tales: Childhood Memories
Amala Chebolu shared some cherished childhood memories, reflecting on the unique experiences that shaped her early years. She recalls, “Immersed in the world of music since birth, my childhood was filled with music, concerts, competitions, academics, and family time.” These formative years were extraordinary, as she discovered her artistic talents and embarked on her creative journey.
Another cherished memory she shared holds a special place in her heart: “I was in the school choir. I still remember my choir teacher, the late Mr. Jeffory Kirk, who encouraged me to join the choir in first grade and continued to support me throughout my school years,” she shared. This was when she discovered her passion for western music.
Amala learned Carnatic music initially from her mother and later under the tutelage of Dr. Pantula Rama Garu. Her parents ensured that she and her elder sister practiced diligently and always gave their best. Amala’s parents worked hard to nurture her talent, shaping her career with their dedication, encouragement, love, and support.
Later, she made her debut as a playback singer in 2014 and was invited to her school as a chief guest, an unforgettable experience. She still remembers the happiness on her teachers’ faces. The school’s chairman late Dr. Ken Gnanakan and Mr. Kirk were proud and delighted to see her grow and shine.
Both sisters used to perform together. Amala shared, “At the age of 6, I gave my first concert at TTD Asthana Mandapam alongside my sister in Tirumala. The goodness that the Lord bestowed upon us is something I truly cherish.”
One of her most memorable moments was when she entered the compound of the Oscar-winning music director Shri M.M. Keeravaani and participated in his musical concert in Australia. This new chapter opened the door to countless memories, experiences and learnings.
Challenges and Struggles
Amala Chebolu reflects on her journey in classical music with gratitude, noting that her early successes helped her enter the music industry. She debuted her song in the movie Maaya in 2014. Amala fondly remembers that when she was recording, the entire team was present, and she completed the final take in just half an hour. To her surprise, that initial test recording became the final version of the song.
She draws immense inspiration from her parents, who instilled in her the values of hard work, discipline, and commitment. Amala credits her upbringing for shaping her character and guiding her throughout her journey.
Occupation
Apart from singing and dubbing, Amala works in the IT industry and was recently promoted to Product Manager. She is successfully balancing both professions. While managing these responsibilities can be challenging, her multitasking skills have helped her excel in both fields.
Latest Projects
Amala has a beautiful voice and has recently made her Bollywood debut with the song “Ae Dil Zara” for the movie “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha,” directed by Neeraj Pandey, with music by M.M. Keeravaani. The film is set to be released in theaters on August 2, 2024. She feels immensely grateful and blessed to have been launched by Keeravaani sir.
She has also dubbed and sung for numerous movies to date. She provided the dubbing for the teaser of the popular hit movie “Sitaramam” and sang the foot-tapping number “Whattey Beauty” in “Bheeshma,” both of which became turning points in her career in dubbing and singing.
